“Some butcher shops get their meat already cut, but not Gallo. He and his crew go down to the Brooklyn Meat Market at First Avenue and 55th Street five days a week to shop for the best sides, which they then bring back to the store for cutting. That means better quality and better cuts, according to the butcher.” – Brooklyn Paper

United Meat Market was also named by The Village Voice as the best place in NYC to get grass-fed beef.

The Meat Hook is easily one of Brooklyn’s most popular meat markets. Located in the trendy Williamsburg, it is owned and operated by a series of hipster butchers… making it kind of awesome right off the bat. That said, I think the prices reflect this image. Either way, everyone seems to love them and to be fair… they sell some pretty great meat! Humanly raised, grass fed, delicious, delicious meat. Plus they have a chick butcher on staff… fuck yes.

Kiszka Meat Market is THE place to go for sausage. Highly acclaimed by the Brooklynites and the Polish alike, if you want to choose from a million different types of sausages, this is where you need to be. I’m not really sure if they carry organic/grass fed type stuff, but if you’re into sausage Kiszka is probably worth checking out either way.

Well, the name says it all doesn’t it? Fleisher’s Meats carries premium products from local farmers who have raised their animals on a primarily grass-based diet or organically-raised. How could you argue with that?

Fleisher’s has grown 3 generations now, and continues to grow with a husband and wife team — which I always enjoy supporting. Jessica told that she and her husband Josh decided to get into meat when she wanted to start eating meat again (an ex. Vegetarian Meat Shop owner!) but couldn’t find any humanly raised meat in their area. Josh’s family was traditionally in the meat business, so upon seeing Jessica’s meat inspired heart-break they dedicated themselves to getting good meat to the people!

“We thought ‘We live in farm country. There are plenty of impeccably sourced meats raised here. There has to be a place we can get just one lamb chop,’” says Jessica. “Turns out, there wasn’t. So basically, we started Fleisher’s for me. Josh gave up his career for my selfish meat desires.” –  Jessica Applestone

Fleisher’s is a favorite at CrossFit South Brooklyn because it’s only a couple blocks away! You can literally walk there after group class, and buy a big ass steak to eat once you get home! Not a bad idea eh? Again, it’s a little pricy, but that’s kinda the name of the game for good organic grass fed beef. Also worth noting, THEY DELIVER!!!
