Last week my husband started curing a pork belly to make bacon. He followed a recipe from the book, Charcuterie. Today, we ate it. OH. MY. GOD. You have not lived until you’ve had home made bacon. This was a game changer. Everything I thought I knew about the awesomeness of bacon was totally turned upside down. This shit was totally off the chain. Seriously, a thousand times better than any bacon I’ve ever had (… and I have had some PRETTY IMPRESSIVE bacon in my day). Seriously though, the final product isn’t even comparable. This was amazing.
Everyone should go buy the book and make the bacon. Seriously.
I also had a slice of his home made sourdough bread.
Both of these items were god damned amazing and worth the points against my score on today’s Whole Life Challenge scoring. Also, worth the splurge. I have an amazing husband who cooks the best foods ever, it would be a waste of good living to not enjoy them from time to time.
I’m still not recovered fully from GORUCK and I’m going out of town again this weekend and so I thought there’s no point in picking up my programming until I’m back to my normal schedule next weekend. So yeah, I kinda just fucked around in the gym today and had a total blast with my lifting partner. We superset our accessory work and hit some battle rope intervals HARD. It was great. Felt great to push myself hard.
Squat: 45×10, 95×5, 135×5, 165×5, 185×3
Bench: 45×10, 65×5, 75×5, 85×3, 95×3, 100×1
Tricep Pushdowns: 30#x100 reps (50, 25, 25)
Seated Row: 3×5 @100#
Superset – Facepulls, Curls, Lateral Raises – 3 sets of 8
Battle ropes: 10 minutes – 15 seconds on 45 seconds off. Max reps was 25 for the 15 second interval.
Breakfast/Pre-lifting: 3 eggs, butter, espresso
Post/Lifting: 3 egg omelet with chicken, spinach, peppers. Banana. coffee
Lunch: Salad – Spring mix, chicken, black beans, peppers, pico-de-gallo, avocado, almonds, olive oil, lemon juice.
Dinner: Home made bacon. Sweet potato home fries. Small slice of home made sourdough with blueberry jam.
